For the deer hunter looking to stay in practice in the many months between seasons, he need not look further than his own computer. There are many deer hunting games available both free on the internet, and for a price at the electronics store. This will allow the hunter to work on his aim and reaction time, and stave off some of the boredom he may suffer from in the off season. There are a few options available, all having different benefits:

Hunting Unlimited 4

The biggest pro to this game is that it isn’t just deer hunting, a hunter can try any number of other species. And if deer is all that is preferred, there are still 50 different scenarios and weapons available to practice with! While this game has a heftier price tag, it is well worth it for the hunter who gets bored easily and likes to try new things.

Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2007

This game also offers the hunter the choice of hunting any number of other species. It focuses not so much on the hunt itself, but on the excitement of the hunt. This is also the 10th anniversary edition and is sponsored by one of the biggest names in hunting gear. While this game also has a bigger price tag, for the adrenaline junkie hunter, it’s a win.

Deer Drive

This game focuses only on deer. It is 3-D arcade style, and allows the hunter to enter into an area with deer, moose, and other wild animals to choose from. It is available online through the publisher’s webiste.

ESPN Deer Hunting

This game is one of the best available for deer hunting, but that may be because it is totally free. It is available through ESPN’s website and Flash will be necessary to play, but most computers already have this installed anyway. The hunter can choose the type of stand or blind he wants to use, and while the graphics are a little on the basic side, for a free game, there certainly isn’t anything to complain about!

Deer Hunter

This is possibly the oldest example of deer hunting virtually on the market. While there have been no new versions released lately, it does offer the hunter classic hunting techniques. The graphics aren’t of the quality of some of the other games, but for the hunter who wants just the basics, this is a nice option.

While the electronic stores can have a lot of options for the deer hunter looking to find some entertainment during the off-season, the deer hunting games available are often at an exorbitant price and tend to take up a lot of space on your computer. Fortunately, a hunter has other options. There are now quite a few deer hunting games available online, and the best part about them is that they are totally free! The hunter may be a little concerned about free games online; will the graphics be poor? Is it too easy? This actually isn’t the case at all, some of the games available for free online have spectacular graphics and allow the hunter to feel as if he were in the woods himself.

Hunting Unlimited 4

This game is perfect for the hunter looking for a challenge. The hunter is given goals he must complete in fast-paced environments. The game also offers more than just deer hunting, a hunter can choose from twelve different species to hunt in six different landscapes, from the North American plains to the African safari. For a free game, Hunting Unlimited 4 well deserves the distinction of one of the best available.

ESPN Deer Hunting

This game is geared 100% to the deer hunter. It downloads at lightning fast speeds, even for a hunter on a 56k connection. This game allows the hunter complete freedom to choose his hunting style; from weapons, season, type of deer, and which deer stand to use. This game requires Flash to run, which is probably already on your computer, has pretty realistic graphics, and allows the hunter to get out there and test his virtual whitetail hunting ability.

Deer Drive

This game sets itself apart from the others because it is 3D. 3D games are really a virtual environment unmatched. In this game herds of deer and other species are driven into your sights and the hunter’s goal is to shoot the biggest of the bunch. The game downloads at a reasonable speed and is pretty fast-paced.

While the decision may be difficult to make, because the games are free the hunter can try them all on for size. Each has a relatively good download time and offers slightly different hunting environments. Whichever choice the virtual hunter makes, he’s sure to kill some of the boredom while he waits for opening day to come around, and there’s no license necessary!
